Target size

We aim to stay under this limit. The actual result depends on your image and settings.

With width and height set, the crop matches that shape. Otherwise the original proportions are kept.

Compression tips & common questionsChoosing a format, resizing and meeting upload limits

For upload forms

Start with JPG and the required KB limit. If the form also specifies dimensions, enter those in Resize & crop.

For websites

Try WebP and compare the result. Resize large originals to the dimensions you actually need.

For transparent graphics

Use PNG or WebP to preserve transparency. JPG replaces transparent areas with white.

Can I compress a photo to exactly 100 KB?

The app aims for a file at or below your target, not a file with exactly that byte count. If fixed dimensions prevent it reaching the limit, the result clearly says it is above target.

Why is the compressed file larger?

An already optimized photo may become larger when re-encoded, resized upward or converted to PNG. Compare the original and new sizes; keep the original if the new result offers no benefit.

Does PNG use the target KB setting?

No. PNG uses lossless browser encoding. Reduce its dimensions, or choose JPG or WebP when a small target file size matters.

Will my photo be uploaded?

Image processing runs locally in your browser. Your photo is not sent to a server for compression. The site may load shared resources and advertising separately.

Can I compress multiple photos?

This editor handles one photo at a time. Download the result, then choose Change photo to work on the next image.

How do I use the crop?

Open Resize & crop and turn on cropping. Drag the frame to move it and its bottom-right handle to resize. With the frame focused, arrow keys move it and Shift with arrow keys changes its size.
